<p>Based on <a href="https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2024-08-22/ex-ftx-executive-s-girlfriend-faces-campaign-finance-charges" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Bloomberg's</a> reports, Ryan Salame's girlfriend, Michelle Bond, has been charged with campaign finance violations. The indictment filed against Bond on Thursday is another milestone in continually unfolding probes related to the loss of the<a href="https://cryptonewsland.com/ftxs-12-7-billion-payout-a-turning-point-for-cryptocurrency-regulation/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow"> FTX </a>cryptocurrency exchange. The FTX case demonstrates that the financial calamity it is currently experiencing has disastrous effects on all those connected with the firm.</p>  
<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-campaign-finance-violations">Campaign Finance Violations</h2>  
<p>According to federal prosecutors in Manhattan, Michelle Bond also engaged in illicit fundraising during her failed bid for Congress in 2022. The charges state that Bond, a resident of Maryland, violated the law by using campaign funds in her attempt to run for the office of the 1st Congressional District of New York. The indictment alleges that FTX sent $400,000 to Bond’s campaign via a fake consulting relationship established by Salame, an FTX executive.</p>  
<p>The indictment further states that Bond also misused other monies wired into her personal bank account by Salame. These funds were reportedly used to finance her congressional campaign. The charges also allege that Bond and Salame talked about how he would fund her campaigns, emphasizing the interconnection of their spending.</p>  
<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="h-salame-s-legal-battle">Salame's Legal Battle</h2>  
<p>Former FTX employee <a href="https://cryptonewsland.com/ftx-executive-challenges-guilty-plea-over-alleged-broken-deal/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Ryan Salame</a>, who was charged with and pleaded guilty to charges involving illegality at FTX, filed a motion allowing a judge to exclude his conviction or delay Bond’s indictment. Salame claimed that the federal prosecutors had violated an earlier understanding that no investigation into Bond would be undertaken if the latter pleaded guilty. However, the government dismissed these allegations, labeling them false and politically motivated by Salame.</p>  
<p>The charges follow an FBI raid on the Maryland house where the accused –Jessica Salame and Mary Bryan Bond lived together in April 2023. Bond, the Digital Future think tank head, has not yet responded to the indictment. Her legal team has also not made any statements regarding this issue. While Bond is set to appear in a New York court, the legal consequences of FTX’s collapse remain a growing issue.</p>
