Authorities uncovered the illicit operation on March 23, 2023, when they discovered that the mining rigs were bypassing electricity meters, resulting in monthly losses of $66,000. The farm had been operational for two years before authorities intervened.
 
This ruling marks Paraguay's second conviction related to electricity theft for crypto mining, as the country intensifies its crackdown on illegal mining activities. In response, the Paraguayan Senate recently passed legislation imposing up to 10 years of imprisonment for energy theft linked to cryptocurrency mining.
