I often receive requests for trade strategies, so I decided to share some of the approaches I use regularly.While there are countless strategies out there, ranging from those based on technical indicators to those relying on support/resistance levels or chart patterns, it’s important to remember that a successful strategy involves more than just entry and exit signals.Discipline, risk management, and understanding market conditions are key components to consistently achieving success.Alright, now on to the strategy. The strategy I’m sharing today is straightforward. However, despite its simplicity, the results are quite appealing.<h3 id="the-core-idea-stochastic-hma-strategy">The Core Idea: Stochastic HMA Strategy</h3>This strategy combines two popular technical indicators: the Stochastic Oscillator and the Hull Moving Average (HMA).So, here’s how it works:<ul><li>Stochastic Oscillator: This indicator helps identify overbought and oversold market conditions. I use it with overbought and oversold levels set at 80 and 20, respectively. Actually, it&#39;s pretty standard.</li><li>Hull Moving Average (HMA): I am using two HMAs—a short one with a 9-period length and a longer one with a 21-period length. The crossover of these HMAs signals potential trend reversals.</li></ul>Alright, now that we know the strategy&#39;s core indicators, let&#39;s examine the entry signal!Long TradesFor long trades (buying), we look for the Stochastic Oscillator to &#34;exit&#34; the oversold level, meaning crossing above the 20 level. We also want the short HMA to cross above the long HMA within the next five candles.Important: The number of candles isn&#39;t fixed, but you can backtest to find the best settings. I usually use five, but you may find another period that fits better. Bear in mind that a higher period leads to more trades.Short TradesFor short trades (selling), we seek a crossover of the Stochastic Oscillator below the overbought level, along with the short HMA crossing below the long HMA.<h3 id="what-this-strategy-aims-to-capture">What This Strategy Aims to Capture</h3>The Stochastic HMA Strategy is designed to catch short- to medium-term trend reversals. By combining the momentum signals from the Stochastic Oscillator with the trend-following nature of the HMA, this strategy aims to enter trades at the early stages of a new trend.<h3 id="enhancing-the-strategy-with-optional-filters">Enhancing the Strategy with Optional Filters</h3>My backtests have shown that the strategy&#39;s results can be massively improved when additional indicators are added. However, this again depends on your strategy, stop loss, take profit levels, etc.Here are a couple of indicators I usually test to improve the results:<ul><li>ADX Filter: This checks if the market has enough strength to sustain a trend by using the Average Directional Index (ADX). It helps avoid getting caught in choppy markets.</li><li>EMA Confirmation: This adds an extra layer of confirmation by ensuring that the price is above (for long trades) or below (for short trades) a 200-period Exponential Moving Average (EMA).</li><li>VWAP Filter: This Volume-Weighted Average Price filter ensures that trades align with the overall market sentiment by checking the price’s relationship to VWAP.</li></ul>These optional filters can help fine-tune the strategy, reducing the number of false signals and improving overall performance.<h3 id="conclusion">Conclusion</h3>While this strategy is simple, it’s effective when used with the right mindset and discipline.
