Doxxed crypto hackers are resorting to Airbnb hopping to avoid kidnappers and rival criminals. They use fake identities to rent Airbnb properties, staying one step ahead of those hunting them.
Hackers face significant dangers. Criminals have thrown bricks and shot up homes. Some hackers have even been kidnapped or targeted for robbery by rival criminals. Hackers are now trying to buy existing Airbnb accounts with positive reviews to carry out their scheme.
The 404 Media has<a href="https://www.404media.co/airbnb-hopping-how-hunted-hackers-stay-out-of-reach-of-crypto-thieves-2/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow"> reported</a> that messages seen by the outlet show hackers discussing the purchase of these accounts. One threatening message from a rival criminal read, “Keep Airbnb hopping before I get to u.”&nbsp;
The tactic allows cybercriminals to remain elusive, despite the risks they face from both law enforcement and criminal rivals.

At least one member of a SIM-swapping group, allegedly involved in bitcoin theft, relies on Airbnb hopping. The popularity of Airbnb among crypto criminals is rising.&nbsp;
Airbnb has emphasized on its verification processes. A statement to 404 Media detailed that Airbnb requires guests, primary hosts, and co-hosts to be verified.&nbsp;
“Anyone who violates our policies, including by attempting to use fraudulent identity documents, may be removed from the platform,” the company stated.
Airbnb acknowledges that no identification process is foolproof. However, they assert that identity verification is crucial for user confidence. This helps ensure that both guests and hosts on Airbnb are genuine.
