In May 2021, an accidental transfer of $6.86 million instead of a $100 refund was made by Crypto.com to Thevamanogari Manivel and Jatinder Singh. An employee had reportedly inputted an account number into the payment section of an Excel spreadsheet, causing the mishap.</p>

On July 15, the Australian Transaction Reports and Analysis Centre (AUSTRAC) noted an increase in the criminal use of cryptocurrencies in its National Risk Assessment on Money Laundering, attributing this to greater anonymity and faster transaction speeds.</p>
