Tech giant Microsoft has announced changes to its upcoming Copilot+ PC release, revealing that the AI tool Recall will no longer ship as initially planned.&nbsp; 
Instead, Recall will be transitioned to a preview feature available exclusively through the Windows Insiders Program (WIP) due to concerns over privacy and security. 
Microsoft stated in a <a href="https://blogs.windows.com/windowsexperience/2024/06/07/update-on-the-recall-preview-feature-for-copilot-pcs/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener nofollow">blog post</a> that this decision is rooted in their commitment to providing a trusted, secure, and robust experience for all customers and to seeking additional feedback before making the feature available to all Copilot+ PC users. 
The decision comes amidst feedback from experts and customers about potential risks associated with Recall, an AI tool designed to track user activity through regular screenshots. Microsoft emphasized its commitment to delivering a secure experience for all users, citing these concerns as the reason for limiting Recall’s availability. 
Initially <a href="https://www.cryptotimes.io/2024/05/21/microsoft-unveils-ai-copilot-pcs-with-advanced-features/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">introduced on May 20</a>, the Copilot+ PC was intended to support advanced AI functionalities, including Recall. However, following the announcement, Recall faced scrutiny over fears that hackers could exploit it to access sensitive user information. 
In response to these concerns, Microsoft had previously announced measures such as making Recall an opt-in feature, implementing additional security protocols like encrypted databases, and requiring Windows Hello for identity verification. 
The decision to delay Recall underscores Microsoft’s proactive approach to addressing security issues amid rapid advancements in AI technology. This move also reflects broader industry efforts to balance innovation with ensuring user privacy and protection. 
The Copilot+ PC is set for release on June 18, with Recall expected to be included in subsequent updates following feedback from the Windows Insiders Program.
