Ahead of the 19th anniversary of the Securities and Exchange Commission, its chair, Gary Gensler, has appeared in a conversation with CNBC on the show “Squawk on the Street” with hosts Jim Cramer, David Faber and Carl Quintanilla. 
In the conversation, he talked about the contribution of the SEC and various other topics related to finance and technological advancements in the financial industries, including the settlement cycle, the stock market and the crypto market.

He has been known for his negative comments on the crypto industry for so long, and his stance continues to remain the same. However, he did have a softer tone. He compared the crypto market with the stock market, pertaining to bankruptcy cases, regulatory shortfalls and scam reports in the crypto industry. 
He advises all the influential crypto market traders not to communicate things that can mislead the public and perform activities that can be manipulative, as transparency and disclosure can promote the growth of the crypto market. 
Gensler slammed the crypto market for its lack of regulations, disclosures and manipulative market practices, as he stated, “These crypto exchanges are doing things we would never allow this New York Exchange to do.” 
Towards the growth of the market, he added that there is competition potential among the public and private markets as they have the capability to improve the quality standards of the public market. 
<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="strong-will-there-be-etf-on-bonk-sushi-swap-and-other-highly-valued-coins-strong">Will there be ETF on Bonk, Sushi Swap and other Highly Valued Coins?</h2> 
Jim Cramer asked Gary Gensler a question about his views on the ongoing crypto ETF buzz and the future of crypto backed ETF instruments. He asked, as Cosmos, Immutable, Ronin, Polka Dot, <a href="https://www.thecoinrepublic.com/2024/05/27/cardano-gains-28-in-the-last-one-year-will-this-trend-continue/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Cardano</a>, Osmosis, Bonk, and Sushi Swap, all the popular altcoins, were trading in the millions of dollars before the show, should we have ETFs on all these coins? 
Gary Gensler did not provide a clear yes or no answer to Cramer’s question; however, he did talk about the broader crypto market and its shortfalls, because of which he did not find these products sustainable to be traded on the stock exchanges. 
Gensler said that these tokens have not provided any disclosures so far, which are not only required by investors to make investment decisions but are also required by the law as the basic concept in the securities market.&nbsp; 
He added that the SEC president commissioned the board to oversee the disclosures given to investors and provide these disclosures in the crypto market.&nbsp; 
<h3 class="wp-block-heading" id="strong-comparing-nyse-and-crypto-exchanges-strong">Comparing NYSE and Crypto Exchanges</h3> 
To support his views, Gary further compared the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) with that of crypto exchanges. He said that the NYSE is properly regulated to detect and control fraud and market manipulation, as stock exchanges never trade against their investors but these crypto exchanges do perform activities that would never be allowed on the stock exchanges, probably because of a lack of regulations. 
He also cited that these are the reasons there are so many reported bankruptcy cases in the crypto industry. The crypto industry elites are in prison, have been to the jail or are awaiting extradition. 
This is why he does not promote investment in a field that lacks disclosures.
