Worldcoin's proof-of-humanity initiative will remain suspended in Spain until the conclusion of 2024 or the completion of an ongoing GDPR assessment.   
This judgment is a result of an examination conducted by the German body responsible for ensuring compliance with the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Tools for Humanity, a significant donor to the initiative, has willingly decided to prolong its suspension in Spain.   
The program seeks to build a system wherein people may authenticate their humanity via digital IDs. Participants are rewarded with WLD tokens for scanning their eyes with a Worldcoin orb, which generates a World ID that verifies their identity.   
Worldcoin has been subjected to substantial examination by many government bodies due to concerns over the safeguarding of personal data. In March, the Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD) issued an injunction for Worldcoin to halt its activities in Spain.   
The AEPD restated its position on Tuesday, emphasizing that Tools for Humanity has made a legal commitment to refrain from resuming activities in Spain until the end of the year or until the Bavarian Data Protection Authority (BayLDA) completes its examination.   
The BayLDA, as the main governing body for data processing in accordance with GDPR, is tasked with supervising Worldcoin's adherence to data protection laws.   
Tools for Humanity has been collaborating with the BayLDA for more than a year to tackle these challenges. Recently, the firm has implemented more measures to address concerns from data privacy advocates about the safeguarding of biometric data gathered by Worldcoin.
