At the Libertarian Party’s National Convention in Washington on May 25, former U.S. President Donald Trump announced his plan to pardon Ross Ulbricht, the creator of the Silk Road darknet market, if he wins the upcoming November election. “If you vote for me, on day one, I will commute the sentence of Ross Ulbricht,” Trump&nbsp; Declared. “He’s already served 11 years, we’re going to get him home.” 
The notorious Silk Road marketplace, known for selling illegal items like drugs, was founded by Ross Ulbricht in 2011. In 2015, Ulbricht received two consecutive life sentences plus an additional 40 years. 
The possible pardon is part of Trump’s larger appeal to the Libertarian Party and cryptocurrency community, highlighting his new digital asset approach. 
Trump, who has recently embraced crypto more openly and even began<a href="https://www.cryptotimes.io/2024/05/22/donald-j-trump-presidential-campaign-now-accepting-crypto/%5C" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"> accepting crypto donations</a> for his campaign, promised to foster a crypto-friendly environment in the U.S. 
He <a href="https://rumble.com/v4v2xa9-live-president-trump-addresses-libertarian-national-convention-in-d.c.-5252.html" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener nofollow">said</a>, “I will support the right to self-custody, to the nation’s 50 million crypto holders I say this with your vote, I will keep Elizabeth Warren and her goons away from your Bitcoin.” 
Trump vowed to end what he claimed was Joe Biden’s crusade against cryptocurrencies and protect individuals involved in the crypto business from excess regulation. This is quite a turnaround from his previous statements regarding digital assets.
