A crypto trader recently turned $8,600 worth of Solana (SOL) into $1.26 million trading a meme coin called Sad Hamster ($HAMMY). The trader 139X’d his meme coin bet in just 55 days. As one trading analyst recently told his audience of 1.2 million followers on X, “This could happen only in crypto!”
As he told one follower further down the thread, “Memecoins is a hit-or-miss game.” Not every coin hits, but the ones that do hit big and fly high. The gains can also disappear like a flash in the pan if the project’s investors aren’t thinking long term and hold some of their tokens during abrupt rallies like Hammy’s to keep the gravity turned up and attract more inflows.

Seeing a rodent coin scurry up the charts with such force and acclaim, a lot of crypto investors are wondering if the force is strong with other dog competitors like cat coins in this market cycle. Cat cryptos <a href="https://kaicat.xyz/en" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">like Kai Cat</a> could be next.

HAMMY has only been around since March. The meme coin launched in early March, rose to $0.008 on Apr. 4, before settling to support around $0.0015. After that it made a moon shot starting on May 2, rising to $0.07 on May 7. So crypto traders should not fear a correction after an altcoin’s first rally. Bagholding can yield big benefits in a short amount of time.
Referring to Hammy’s market cap, one on-chain crypto gem trader wrote a post to their followers on X <a href="https://twitter.com/itrapwell/status/1786164811132493986" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">saying</a>, “I tried to tell you at 400K I’m telling you again here at 10m $Hammy is the single most viral meme in 2024.” 
The technically most viral meme in 2024 so far, however, is Solana PopCat ($POPCAT), which posted 3,424% gains in Q1 from Jan. 1 – Mar. 31, <a href="https://www.coingecko.com/learn/best-performing-crypto-coins" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">according to</a> CoinGecko data. That may be why <a href="https://kaicat.xyz/en" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Ethereum Kai Cat ($KAI)</a> has raised nearly $200,000 in $ETH in a matter of days.
