A 30-year-old Helena citizen, Jarek William Hahn, has been sentenced to 15 months in prison and three years of supervised release for his role in the black market trade of fentanyl through the dark web. Hahn pleaded guilty to the crime of possession with intent to distribute fentanyl in December 2023. 
According to the <a href="https://www.justice.gov/usao-mt/pr/helena-man-sentenced-prison-trafficking-fentanyl-purchased-dark-web-using-cryptocurrency" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Justice report</a>, Hahn employed clever means of connecting to encrypted locations on the dark web where he <a href="https://www.justice.gov/usao-mt/pr/helena-man-sentenced-prison-trafficking-fentanyl-purchased-dark-web-using-cryptocurrency" target="_blank" rel="noopener">paid</a> for it via cryptocurrency payment and had it shipped through ordinary post. Investigators found 64 fentanyl pills during the house search.&nbsp; 
The FBI, along with supporting agencies including the Missouri River Drug Task Force, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and U.S. Postal Inspection Service, executed the investigation. 
However, Banmeet Singh was also <a href="https://www.cryptotimes.io/2024/01/27/indian-man-pleads-guilty-in-150m-dark-web-drug-operation/">prosecuted</a> for developing a robust illegal drug distribution network that has been working from 2012 to 2017 in Haldwani, India. Dark web intermediaries like Silk Road, AlphaBay, and Hansa served as fronts for Singh’s business, financing his operations and facilitating the import and distribution of controlled substances, mainly into the United States.
