Degen Chain, a layer 3 blockchain built on Ethereum, has been experiencing a significant outage. It hasn’t validated transactions or produced new blocks for over 53 hours, making the network and its applications unusable since 8:15 pm UTC on May 12.
This blockchain settles transactions on a layer-2 network, specifically using the Ethereum layer-2 chain Base for settlement, and relies on the AnyTrust protocol for data availability functions.
According to the block explorer, the last time Degen Chain produced a new <a href="https://explorer.degen.tips/blocks" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">block</a> was May 12 at 8:15 pm UTC. Degen Chain encountered operational problems. Block creation stopped at around 4:15 p.m. ET on Sunday, starting with block #15524774. This led to over <a href="https://www.cryptotimes.io/2024/05/13/network-disruption-halts-degen-chain-operations/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">17 hours of downtime</a>, halting transaction validation.

In a post shared on May 14, the official Degen Chain account stated that they are working on resolving the downtime in collaboration with their development partner, Conduit, a rollup infrastructure platform.
Conduit has attributed the downtime to an issue arising from a “custom config change,” which caused both Degen Chain and the gaming network Apex to cease block production.
Nodes on the Degen Chain are undergoing a resynchronization process starting from the genesis block, which is the initial block on the network. Both teams involved and Offchain Labs are collaborating to restore service and mitigate any inconvenience to users.&nbsp;
Degen Chain has stated that the network is expected to resume normal functionality following the completion of the resynchronization, scheduled for May 15, 1:00 pm UTC (6:00 AM PST).
