 Former U.S. President Donald Trump has signalled his intention to accept cryptocurrency donations for his 2024 presidential campaign, according to a<a style="color: #0000ff;" href="https://twitter.com/frankdegods/status/1788377000941367340?t=5gcAGO5d1UP1lwvz3Uy-5w&amp;s=19" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow"> video </a>circulating on social media for the past 12 hours.&nbsp;

The video clip shows the former President, who is also the leading candidate for the Republican party for the 2024 elections, speaking at a special dinner event hosting the buyers of his “Mugshot Edition” NFTs at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida on May 8. Those invited to the dinner individually <a style="color: #0000ff;" href="https://www.axios.com/2024/05/08/trump-nft-dinner-trial-2024-election-campaign" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">reportedly </a>bought more than 47 NFTs, each priced at $99.&nbsp;
He told his guests that he intends to accept campaign donations in cryptocurrency and create ways to achieve that. In his words:&nbsp; “Can we donate to the Trump campaign using crypto? I believe the answer is yes. If you can’t, I’ll make sure you can.”&nbsp;
Trump’s engagement with the cryptocurrency community has been increasingly prominent, with him actively promoting his NFT collection and emphasizing the importance of cryptocurrencies. In another <a href="https://twitter.com/frankdegods/status/1788375040544604250" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">video clip,</a>&nbsp; Trump boasted of his role in revitalizing interest in NFTs: “We did it when NFTs were not hot. We made NFTs hot again.”
Notably, in a recent <a style="color: #0000ff;" href="https://youtu.be/91W2qqk0HAg?si=EDDsJxGG4UD-21Jx" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">CNBC “Squawk Box”</a> interview, the former U.S. President hinted at a more lenient approach towards cryptocurrencies should he reclaim the presidency. Trump claimed he now recognizes the widespread adoption of digital currencies and voiced reluctance to impose stringent regulations, signalling a departure from his earlier criticisms. In 2021, Trump labelled <a style="color: #0000ff;" href="https://www.deseret.com/2021/10/7/22712384/donald-trump-support-cryptocurrency/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Bitcoin as a “scam”</a> with the potential to challenge the dominance of the U.S. dollar as the global reserve currency.&nbsp;
Trump has also criticized President Joe Biden’s alleged misunderstanding of cryptocurrency and pledged to keep crypto businesses in the United States. He reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining the <a style="color: #0000ff;" href="https://youtu.be/91W2qqk0HAg?si=EDDsJxGG4UD-21Jx" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">sector domestically</a>, aiming to prevent crypto companies from relocating due to adverse conditions within the country.
In response to a <a style="color: #0000ff;" href="https://twitter.com/macdegods/status/1788363913634914481" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">question</a> about whether he would keep crypto businesses in the U.S., Trump said he’d work to keep them in the country. “If crypto is moving out of the U.S. because of hostility toward crypto… well, we’ll stop it. We don’t want that,” Trump said. “If we’re going to embrace it, we have to let them be here.”
