Former United States President Donald Trump made more than a few memorable quotes as he hosted a gaggle of nonfungible token (NFT) enthusiasts at his Florida home on Wednesday, May 8.
Besides vowing to keep crypto entrepreneurs in the U.S., Trump also took partial credit for making “NFTs hot again” thanks to his sizeable collection. He even dissed a political rival’s inspired memecoin — inadvertently causing its price to surge. 
Several clips of his most memorable lines surfaced on X on May 8.
<h3 data-ct-non-breakable="true" id="on-crypto-i-m-good-with-it">On crypto: “I’m good with it”</h3>
One of the first clips to make the rounds on social media included Trump <a href="https://twitter.com/frankdegods/status/1788359051031761269" target="_blank" rel="noopener nofollow">vowing</a> to provide a better regulatory environment for crypto businesses and entrepreneurs by removing the “hostility” toward crypto, which he suggests is brought about by the administration of U.S. President Joe Biden and the Securities and Exchange Commission.

When asked what he would do to remove that hostility and keep innovators in the United States by NFT enthusiast “Malcolm,” Trump responded:

<h3 data-ct-non-breakable="true" id="on-nfts-we-made-nfts-hot-again">On NFTs: “We made NFTs hot again”</h3>
Trump also <a href="https://twitter.com/frankdegods/status/1788375040544604250" target="_blank" rel="noopener nofollow">claimed</a> that his Mugshot NFTs and other collections “made NFTs hot again” at a time when the NFT market seemingly lost its steam, which received an uproar of cheer from attendees.
Most attendees had to make purchases in the amount of at least $4,653, the cost of 47 Mugshots NFTs at $99 each, to be <a href="https://cointelegraph.com/news/donald-trump-mugshot-nft-dinner">invited to the dinner event</a>.

<h3 data-ct-non-breakable="true" id="on-boden-that-s-a-lotta-money-for-a-coin">On BODEN: “That’s a lotta money for a coin”</h3>
To no one’s surprise, Trump isn’t a fan of the Biden-linked Jeo Boden (BODEN) memecoin, which currently <a href="https://www.coingecko.com/en/coins/jeo-boden" target="_blank" rel="noopener nofollow">boasts</a> a market capitalization of over $260 million.
“That’s a lotta money for a coin, I don’t like that investment,” he <a href="https://x.com/tier10k/status/1788368117351002614" target="_blank" rel="noopener nofollow">said</a>.
BODEN spiked more than 10% shortly after his comments were shared on X.
But another memecoin based loosely on Trump — Donald Tremp (TREMP) — took the cake, <a href="https://www.coingecko.com/en/coins/doland-tremp" target="_blank" rel="noopener nofollow">skyrocketing</a> nearly 110% over the same timeframe.
The multibillionaire also poked fun at his political rival in a separate comment, mockingly suggesting he “has no idea” what crypto is.

<h2 data-ct-non-breakable="true" id="is-trump-turning-pro-crypto">Is Trump turning pro crypto?</h2>
Trump previously referred to Bitcoin (<a href="https://cointelegraph.com/bitcoin-price">BTC</a>)&nbsp;as a scam in 2021 but has <a href="https://cointelegraph.com/news/trump-calls-bitcoin-a-scam-advocates-for-dollar-hegemony">started to embrace it</a> and the broader industry in recent months. 
When asked if people could donate using crypto, he replied, “If you can’t, I’ll make sure you can.”
However, he still strongly prefers maintaining the <a href="https://cointelegraph.com/news/trump-no-longer-anti-bitcoin">U.S. dollar’s dominance</a> under the traditional banking system. 
Trump also recently said he <a href="https://cointelegraph.com/news/donald-trump-vivek-ramaswamy-never-allow-cbdc">would never allow</a> for the creation of a central bank digital currency under his watch.

The mugshot NFT came about after Trump surrendered himself to authorities in Georgia in August 2023, where he was indicted on charges related to attempts to overturn the 2020 election.
Trump is also on criminal trial for falsifying business documents regarding a $130,000 payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels, separate from the charges he faces in Georgia, Florida and Washington, DC. 
Trump has been in a New York courtroom on trial days since jury selection started on April 15. However, the court is not in session on Wednesdays, so he flew down to his Florida residence on May 8 to host the event.
