This achievement comes ahead of the eagerly awaited bitcoin <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/heat-waves-and-halving-bitcoin-miners-cash-in-amid-rising-prices/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">halving</a> event projected for April 20, 2024. The proprietary MARA Pool of Marathon managed to secure 110 blocks during the month, contributing significantly to the company's bitcoin reserves, according to <a href="https://theminermag.com/news/2024-04-01/bitcoin-mining-marathon-mara-pool-downtime-march/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">TheMinerMag</a>.

In addition to its own mining efforts, Marathon benefits from bitcoin generated through collaborative ventures with third-party entities. Taking these partnerships into account, TheMinerMag estimates Marathon's total bitcoin <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/bitcoin-miners-set-for-a-tough-ride-as-2024-halving-nears-jp-morgan/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">production</a> for March to hover around 882 BTC. This figure is particularly notable given the decrease in bitcoin's daily production benchmark to 1.6 BTC/EH/s in March, a result of the increasing network hashrate and mining difficulty. The calculated production implies Marathon achieved a realized hashrate of about 17.8 EH/s, translating to 62% efficiency of the 28 EH/s hashrate powered by the company as of February 29.
Operational disruptions at Applied Digital, Marathon's <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/bitcoin-mining-reshaping-landscape-amid-global-interest-surge/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">hosting</a> service, notably at their Garden City and Ellendale sites in <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/texas-residents-challenge-bitcoin-mining-industrys-impact-on-power-grid-and-communities/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Texas</a>, have posed significant challenges since mid-January. These issues contributed to extended downtimes stretching into March. Despite these hurdles, Marathon announced the acquisition of the Garden City facility for $87.3 million in a strategic move to bolster its mining infrastructure.
