A 2019 University of Amherst study highlighted the enormity of this issue, revealing that training a single AI model could generate as much as 626,000 pounds of carbon dioxide—almost five times the emissions of an average mid-sized car over its lifetime. This stark comparison sheds light on the significant environmental concerns associated with the widespread adoption of GenAI technologies.</p>
