Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF), the former CEO of bankrupt crypto exchange FTX is heading toward the sentencing procedure. However, a letter sent from an <a href="https://news.todayq.com/ftx-customers-fight-for-sam-coins-payout-amid-bankruptcy-chaos/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">FTX customer</a> to the Department of Justice (DOJ) about losing around $4 million when the exchange filed for bankruptcy in 2022 has sent shockwaves to in the crypto community. As per reports, the letter which came out just days before the SBF goes in for sentencing shows the high emotional and financial toll imposed on the FTX collapse victims. The sufferer expressed anger at the notion that clients would ever be fully compensated.
However, the victim had revealed that the customer’s liabilities would amass over $19 billion. It added that their personal account reflects the pain seen by different affected individuals including users losing life savings during the <a href="https://news.todayq.com/ftx-urges-us-to-cut-bankruptcy-claim-shareholders-left-empty-handed/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">collapse of FTX</a>.
It is important to note that the prosecutors seized such accounts of the customers in order to sway US District Judge Lewis Kaplan as the sentencing proceedings loom in. The victims’ letters to the agencies showing the sentiments of others can serve as a huge reminder of the human cost behind such criminal actions.
SBF had been convicted of wire fraud, conspiracy, and other charges related to FTX’s horrible collapse. He is now facing a maximum sentence of more than 100 years. Prosecutors had advocated for a sentence term of 40 to 50 years. Meanwhile, the defense is seeking a much shorter term of around 6.5 years. What can his defense team do?
