<p>Tech giant Microsoft has unveiled plans to empower 100,000 women in the Philippines through comprehensive training in artificial intelligence (AI) technology and cybersecurity. The initiative was announced during a high-profile two-day trade mission led by US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo.</p>

<p>Microsoft aims to equip Filipino women with essential skills in AI and cybersecurity through an accessible online platform. These women will receive training on utilizing Microsoft’s AI tools, including those powered by OpenAI’s advanced language models. The objective is to enhance their employability and enable them to effectively identify and respond to cybersecurity threats in the workplace.</p> 
<p>Collaborating closely with government agencies and local educational institutions, Microsoft plans to deliver this training initiative to a wide spectrum of participants, including government employees. According to Mary Snapp, a Microsoft official, this strategic partnership aims to leverage existing infrastructure to facilitate widespread access to the training program.</p>

<p>In a statement, Philippine Trade Undersecretary Rafaelita Aldaba underscored the potential of this initiative to bolster cybersecurity measures and foster trust in technology adoption across the country. Furthermore, Microsoft’s efforts align with addressing the Philippines’ challenge of combating disinformation. By enhancing digital literacy and awareness, the initiative aims to empower individuals to discern and mitigate the impact of manipulated content.</p> 
<p>In addition to its focus on women’s empowerment, Microsoft also intends to address educational disparities in the Philippines. Partnering with the Philippine Department of Education, the tech giant plans to introduce an AI-powered reading progress tool for approximately 27 million students. This initiative responds to the findings of a 2022 World Bank study, revealing significant literacy gaps among Filipino students, particularly in reading comprehension.</p>
