<p style="text-align: justify">The crypto project <strong>Worldcoin</strong>, founded by the president of OpenAI, has raised concerns among regulators worldwide. This concern was echoed by Spain, which has taken action to block Sam Altman’s crypto project Worldcoin. This move was the latest blow to an initiative that sparked debates in many countries due to plans to collect customers’ personal data using a retinal scanning “orb”.</p> 
<h2 style="text-align: justify" id="bad-news-for-worldcoin-project">Bad News for Worldcoin Project</h2> 
<p style="text-align: justify">Spain’s data protection regulator AEPD has demanded that Worldcoin immediately stop collecting personal information in the country and cease using the data it has already gathered. The regulatory body announced the “precautionary measure” decision on Wednesday and gave Worldcoin 72 hours to comply.</p> 
<p style="text-align: justify">AEPD had previously prompted Worldcoin to implement new age verification tests last year, expressing concerns about the technology’s use with minors. Founded by Altman in 2019, Worldcoin offers the cryptocurrency <strong>WLD</strong> to people around the world in exchange for allowing their eye retinas to be scanned by an orb.</p> 
<p style="text-align: justify">The scans are used as a form of identity verification, as artificial intelligence continues to strive for a reliable mechanism to differentiate between humans and machines.</p> 
<h2 style="text-align: justify" id="what-does-the-regulator-s-decision-mean">What Does the Regulator’s Decision Mean?</h2> 
<p style="text-align: justify">The Spanish regulator’s decision is the latest setback for OpenAI boss and Worldcoin co-founders Max Novendstern and Alex Blania, following a series of problems they encountered elsewhere in the world.</p> 
<p style="text-align: justify">The San Francisco and Berlin-based startup avoided launching the cryptocurrency WLD in the US last summer due to the country’s harsh crackdown on the digital assets sector.</p> 
<p style="text-align: justify">While the Worldcoin token is not available in major global markets like China and India, observers in Kenya ordered the project to halt its operations last year. The UK Information Commissioner’s Office had previously stated it would investigate Worldcoin.</p>
