The Nigeria Customs Service launched an e-Auction initiative for an inclusive strategy towards disposal of seized goods like cars and other items. These items are now made available on the <a href="https://auction.nigeriatradehub.gov.ng/" data-type="URL" data-id="https://auction.nigeriatradehub.gov.ng/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">official Custom e-Auction </a>website for auctioning. Below are the steps to follow in participating in this initiative. 
1. Registration on Customs e-Auction Site a. Visit the official e-Auction site: <a href="https://auction.nigeriatradehub.gov.ng" target="_blank" rel="noopener">https://auction.nigeriatradehub.gov.ng</a>. b. Create an account by providing personal information. c. Agree to the terms and conditions set by the Nigeria Customs Service. 
2. Verification Process a. Participants are required to present: – Valid Tax Identification Number (TIN) – Email address linked to their TIN – Phone number for verification. b. The Nigeria Customs may perform a verification process to confirm the participant’s identity. 
3. Administrative Charge a. Pay a nominal Administrative Charge of N1,000 for successful sign-up on the Customs Service e-Auction platform. 
4. Fund E-Wallet a. Log in to the auction site. b. Create an e-wallet and fund it to enable bidding on displayed items. 
5. Viewing e-Auction Listings a. Browse through the listings of items available for auction. b. Review details, descriptions, and conditions of the items. 
6. Bidding Period a. The auctions are periodic, opening every Tuesday at noon and closing at 6 pm. b. Participants of the Nigeria Customs auction can bid on up to two items in a window, with the option to place repeated bids for increased chances of winning. 
7. Notice of Winning Bid a. Participants with the highest bids are notified immediately after the bid period ends. b. Winners must download their winning certificates promptly via the provided link sent to their email. 
8. Payment a. Winners are required to pay for the items won within a specified time frame. b. Payment methods and instructions are provided on the e-Auction site and money should not be paid into any entity’s personal account. 
9. Clearance Process a. Winners must provide the winning certificate at the location where their goods are kept. b. The clearance process takes seven days. 
10. Terms and Conditions a. Nigeria Customs Officers and owners of seized items are ineligible to participate. b. Winning bids must be validated at the Customs Area Controllers’ offices. c. Prompt payment, including a 7.5% VAT, and a refundable container deposit (if applicable), are mandatory.

<h5 id="nigeria-customs-rice-distribution-initiative" class="wp-block-heading">Nigeria Customs rice distribution initiative</h5> 
The Nigeria Customs Service had earlier launched an initiative to alleviate food scarcity in Nigeria. The Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi MFR, expressed commitment to align with President Bola Tinubu-led administration’s plans to tackle the pressing issue of food insecurity by ensuring the availability of essential food items to Nigerians.

Speaking at the flag-off of the rice disbursement program in Lagos on Thursday, February 22, 2024, CGC Adeniyi emphasized that the distribution of rice was targeted at areas of customs operations, ensuring direct access to beneficiaries.d 
The rice distribution was held at the Customs zonal office, Harvey Road, Yaba Lagos. As regards this, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi said the commission will surmount all obstacles that will deter it from achieving its articulated people-centric initiatives.

CGC Adeniyi stressed the importance of transparency and accountability in the distribution process, urging Nigerians participating in the exercise to refrain from selling the rice in markets or hoarding it for purposes other than domestic consumption.
