MicroStrategy, a company headed by <a href="https://news.todayq.com/no-bitcoin-sell-off-plans-from-microstrategy-reveals-michael-saylor/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Michael Saylor</a> and known for holding a significant amount of Bitcoin, faced a troubling situation recently. Reports suggest that their X account, previously known as Twitter, was compromised. This led to a false ‘official’ announcement being shared with their followers. According to blockchain expert ZachXBT, the compromised account promoted a supposed MSTR token launch, urging users to claim it through a provided link. The fake MicroStrategy X post 
In a post that was later taken down because it was hacked, MicroStrategy, led by Michael Saylor, introduced an Ethereum token called $MSTR. This announcement was spotted by a well-known crypto user named Spreek. It claimed this token had low gas fees and was backed by MicroStrategy’s Bitcoin.
Crypto experts noticed something suspicious about the scam right away. Cobie, a British crypto investor who uses a pseudonym, pointed out that MicroStrategy focuses solely on Bitcoin. It seemed unlikely that they would suddenly launch a token on the Ethereum platform.

Cobie said, “Obviously trying not to be victim blaming here but you gotta be very special to think MicroStrategy is launching an ETH token after Saylor has spent multiple years very famously saying ‘there is no second best’ and ‘you only use one chair’ etc.”
Despite the skepticism, ZachXBT mentioned that users had already lost 0,000 by connecting their wallets and falling for the phishing scam.
MicroStrategy’s X account shared several messages, suspected to be phishing attempts, promoting an airdrop of the “MSTR token” and directing users to a website with the domain “microstralegy.” Losses faced in the process 
Users who clicked on the link were taken to a fake MicroStrategy webpage, where they were asked to connect their wallet and claim the fake MSTR tokens. When users agree to certain permissions in their Web3 wallet, the attackers can drain tokens from their wallet automatically.
According to ZachXBT and anti-scam platformScam Sniffer, the losses from this scam have surpassed $440,000. Scam Sniffer reported that a single user lost over $420,000 to the phishing scam. This occurred around 12:43 am UTC, just a few minutes after the initial malicious link was shared on MicroStrategy’s X account.

Quoting Scam Sniffer, “someone lost $424,786 worth of $wBAI, $wPOKT, and $CHEX to phishing scams.” One transfer went to the MicroStrategy attacker, while two were automatically redirected to a second wallet associated with the hacking group PinkDrainer, as per reports.
The victim of the scam authorized a transaction totaling $134,000 worth of Wrapped Balance AI (wBAI), $122,000 worth of Chintai (CHEX), and $45,000 worth of Wrapped Pocket Network (wPOKT) to the attacker’s wallet address.
At the time of reporting, the MicroStrategy attacker’s wallet contains $328,130 worth of Ethereum-based tokens, as perEthereum DeBank.
