Users contribute by staking their coins within the wallet, enabling periodic selection of these coins to mint new blocks, thereby enhancing security and flexibility without relying solely on one consensus mechanism.</p><h3 id="a-global-network">A Global Network</h3><p>The PoS model not only saves energy and costs but also democratizes the validation process. With lower overheads compared to PoW mining, PoS nodes can operate from any location with internet access, broadening Dimecoin&#39;s decentralization and global reach.</p><h2 id="header-1">Guide</h2><ol><li><strong>Download the Client</strong>: Obtain the latest Dimecoin Core wallet client from <a href="https://github.com/dime-coin/dimecoin/releases/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">GitHub</a>.</li><li><strong>Install and Sync</strong>: After downloading, install the client and synchronize it with the blockchain, this process usually takes around 6 hours but varying with internet and hardware capabilities. Inputs must meet minimum thresholds for eligibility in minting new blocks.</p><h3 id="minimum-thresholds">Minimum Thresholds</h3><ul><li>Coins must remain in the wallet for 450 confirmations (~6-8 hours) to mature.</li><li>A minimum of 100,000 coins per input is required for staking.</li></ul><h3 id="coin-age-and-days">Coin Age and Days</h3><p>The likelihood of an input being selected for new block minting increases with the number of coins and their age, enhancing after reaching maturity and accumulating &#34;Coin Day.&#34;</p><p>For instance, if you have 500,000 dimecoins that have reached maturity (at least 450 confirmations), they will start to accumulate what is  called “Coin Day”. As “Coin Day” accumulates, the likelihood of  producing a new block on the chain increases.</p><p>After approximately 30 days, individual inputs will hit their maximum minting power, and coin day accumulation will end. Coin Day will no longer increase after this period passes as a limit is imposed on an input’s coin age to discourage periodic staking.</p><p></p><img src="https://academy-public.coinmarketcap.com/srd-optimized-uploads/25fb2d513dff4e2983c01fed2d15f4c9.png" /><p></p><h3 id="additional-parameters">Additional Parameters</h3><ul><li>PoS minted blocks can become orphaned if minted simultaneously by multiple participants, with the wallet managing orphaned inputs.</li><li>Minted coins are locked for 450 confirmations, resetting their age, and staking rewards are added to the transaction record, with spending resetting coin age to zero.</li><li>Spending coins, combining inputs, will reset an inputs coinage to zero.</li><li>Staking rewards are directly added to your transaction record where the stake occurs.</li></ul><h2 id="header-3">Network Difficulty Explained</h2><p>Think of network difficulty as a way the Dimecoin network makes sure that creating new blocks stays at a steady pace. As more people join in to mine or stake their coins, the network makes it a bit tougher to find new blocks, ensuring everything stays fair and secure. This adjustment is key for keeping the network running smoothly, no matter how many are participating.</p><h2 id="header-4">Final Thoughts</h2><p>Running a full node and staking coins enhances the blockchain&#39;s health and security.
