Apple CEO Tim Cook confirmed that the company is working on generative artificial intelligence features that will be available to consumers in 2024. During the company’s quarterly earnings call on February 1st, Cook expressed his belief that artificial intelligence and generative AI represent a significant opportunity for the company.

When analysts pressed the CEO for more details about Apple’s AI plans, he mentioned that there are some incredibly exciting things they are working on, which they will talk about later in the year, and added the following statement:

This includes artificial intelligence, which we continue to spend a tremendous amount of time and effort on, and we are excited to share details of our ongoing work in this area later this year.”

Apple typically introduces new software products at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference in June. While there is speculation about Apple’s future AI plans, the company is currently far behind aggressive AI advancements made by competitors like Google, Microsoft, and Meta last year. 
On January 29th, Apple’s valuation fell below the $3 trillion threshold, allowing Microsoft to take over as the world’s most valuable public company. In its own earnings report, Microsoft pointed to the infusion of artificial intelligence into every layer of its <a href="https://newslinker.co/category/technology/" data-wpel-link="exclude">technology</a> stack as a driving force behind its success.

Google and YouTube’s parent company Alphabet, reported a consolidated revenue of $86 billion in the fourth quarter of 2023, a 13% increase compared to the previous year. The company stated that it is already benefiting from its investments and innovations in artificial intelligence, and with the launch of the new Gemini model, the best is yet to come. 
In addition to unveiling its artificial and generative AI products, Apple also hinted at some other significant developments for 2024. These include the newest members of the smartphone family, iPhone 16 and 16 Pro, as well as what some are calling the biggest update in operating system history, the iOS 18 update. Moreover, the company will launch its long-awaited first augmented reality headset, Vision Pro, on February 2nd.
