Responding to concerns raised by Hong Kong’s Securities and Futures Commission (SFC), the team behind the meme-based <a href="https://news.todayq.com/cryptocurrency-otc-desks-what-is-it-and-how-it-works/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">cryptocurrency</a> project Floki has taken proactive measures to address regulatory worries related to its token staking program. Placing the staking program on its list of suspicious investment products, the SFC expressed particular concern about the high Annualized Percentage Yield (APY) offered by Floki and TokenFi staking programs. What did Floki have to say? 
In a Medium post, the Floki team acknowledged the regulatory challenges, stating, “We’ve taken steps to mitigate concerns in jurisdictions where the regulatory framework does not specifically cover or cater for the staking programs.” Emphasizing the SFC’s focus on the high APY, the team outlined various steps it has taken to address the regulatory concerns in <a href="https://news.todayq.com/hong-kong-gets-first-spot-bitcoin-etf-appeal-whats-next/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Hong Kong</a>.
One significant measure implemented by the Floki team is the issuance of warning notices and the blocking of Hong Kong users from participating in their staking programs. Additionally, the team has paused its offline marketing campaign in the region to prevent any further participation by Hong Kong users.
However, regulatory bodies such as the SFC have raised concerns about the potential risks associated with high APY programs offered by virtual asset platforms.
Floki’s unique reward system, utilizing $TOKEN from its sister project TokenFi, a market-responsive APY, a decentralized and community-centric allocation strategy, and the absence of fundraising from Venture Capitalists (VCs) or presales contribute to the high APY of its staking program. The SFC had previously issued a warning to investors in December 2022 regarding the high risks and unregulated nature of virtual asset platforms offering deposit, saving, or staking services. Emphasizing potential significant losses, the SFC advised caution to investors engaging with such platforms.
“The Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) wishes to remind investors of the risks associated with virtual asset (VA) platforms offering VA ‘deposits,’ ‘savings,’ ‘earnings,’ or ‘staking’ services (VA Arrangements) to investors in Hong Kong,” stated the SFC in their post. The regulator also highlighted the continued prevalence of such platforms despite previous warnings and recent events in the virtual asset industry.
In response to these regulatory concerns, Floki’s team remains committed to maintaining transparency and addressing the issues raised by the SFC. The measures aimed to protect users and ensure compliance with local regulations.
