<p style="text-align: justify">Crypto users on social media have been warned about a new phishing scam involving emails that seemingly originate from Patreon. These fraudulent emails are tied to fake crypto projects and are part of a scheme to gain access to users’ cryptocurrency wallets.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify">The phishing attacks were first reported on January 23, with users receiving emails about non-existent airdrop events from supposed Patreon content creators. These emails impersonated legitimate projects such as Chainlink, <a href="https://en.bitcoinhaber.net/solanas-market-surge-could-it-be-the-next-doge" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Solana</a>, Manta Network, and Sui.</p>
<h2 id="addressing-the-phishing-concerns">Addressing the Phishing Concerns</h2>
<p style="text-align: justify">Patreon Support acknowledged the issue on January 25, stating they had resolved a problem with email verification and unauthorized follows from a crypto account posing as a Patreon creator. A screenshot from a Patreon email confirmed the malicious nature of these attempts and reassured that the issue had been corrected.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify">Despite these assurances, some users have reported continued receipt of phishing emails. One user on Reddit highlighted the persistence of these fraudulent communications, having deleted multiple emails related to a fake Manta airdrop event.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify">In the broader context, Scam Sniffer, a blockchain security platform, reported that phishing scams affected over 324,000 crypto users in 2023, with losses totaling $295 million. However, concerted efforts by the crypto community, governments, and security firms have led to a decrease in the impact of these scams, deterring potential attackers.</p>
