The National Research University Higher School of Economics suggests disconnecting miners for at least 500 hours annually. This initiative would classify miners as a distinct consumer category, subject to unique power cut rules. Presently, Russian households face a maximum of 72-hour annual electricity disruption. Miners would become the fourth category, enduring longer disconnections, according to <a href="https://bits.media/smi-rossiyskikh-maynerov-predlozhili-vremenno-otklyuchat-ot-elektrichestva/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Bits.media</a>.
Sergei Bezdelov of the Industrial Mining Association sees this as a win-win. It's a practical compromise for businesses, and miners seem ready for it. Valery Seleznev of the State Duma Energy Committee notes <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/hut-8s-q2-2023-a-bitcoin-mining-marvel/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">crypto miners</a>' adaptability to power outages.
This initiative could counter the Energy Ministry's plan to hike mining tariffs in energy-scarce regions. This influx has strained the region's power supply, prompting the Ministry to consider regulatory changes and increased tariffs for crypto farms in energy-deficient areas.
Meanwhile, Irkutskenergosbyt is taking legal action against <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/abkhazia-intensifies-crackdown-on-illegal-crypto-mining/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">illegal mining</a> operations. Since the year's start, 794 lawsuits have been filed against these miners. In five years, 1,882 cases have been initiated, with 1,074 recognized as legitimate, leading to over 480 million rubles in fines.
