<p>In response to growing concerns among users regarding the Samsung Galaxy S24’s generative AI photo editing feature, Patrick Chomet, the head of the customer experience at Samsung, has assured the public that apprehensions about the phone’s AI capabilities are unfounded.</p>
<p>Chomet, speaking exclusively to TechRadar, explained that the Generative Edit feature is a natural progression of smartphone capabilities. This innovative feature allows Galaxy users to effortlessly manipulate images and videos, enabling them to change, remove, or add elements seamlessly. However, the ease with which this editing can be done has raised apprehensions about the creation of convincing fake images.</p>

<p>Chomet challenged the notion of a “real picture” in the age of AI, stating, “There is no real picture, full stop.” He emphasized that even traditional photos taken by individuals undergo AI optimization processes, such as zoom, autofocus, and scene enhancement, blurring the lines between authenticity and manipulation.</p>

<p>Acknowledging the concerns raised, Chomet highlighted that AI edits would result in changes to the photo’s metadata, accompanied by a distinct watermark. While this should theoretically make AI-edited images identifiable, the challenge lies in users’ ability to discern such edits easily, raising concerns about the potential spread of misinformation.</p>

<p>The legal landscape surrounding AI remains uncertain as lawmakers grapple with understanding the technology’s capabilities. The legislation varies based on the risk posed by specific AI systems, with some requiring disclosure of generative model sources and others only needing to inform users about AI-generated content.</p>
