(<a href="https://etherscan.io/tx/0x0adaf618eb10ec8285249fc75be95a492591bff0ee2bfe6456b9d5a4dcdab257" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">tx one</a>, <a href="https://etherscan.io/tx/0x2aa6e38d18608b85affb7570b91828c7bdb838a26d33bf959226dec2777913c2" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">tx two</a>). This act of furry philanthropy is a result of Pawthereum’s community banding together, voting with their paws and hearts to choose a beneficiary as noble as the big cats themselves. With this donation, Pawthereum’s total tally of charitable contributions reaches a roaring $480,850!The story of Big Cat Rescue (BCR) starts in 1992 in Hillsborough County, Florida, with the rescue of a bobcat named Windsong. Three years later, in 1995, BCR was granted non-profit status as a 501(c)(3) organization. BCR has long been dedicated to the rescue and housing of exotic cats and the rehabilitation of injured or orphaned native wild cats. In addition, their mission involves putting an end to the abuse of big cats living in captivity as well as working to prevent the extinction of wild big cats (the latter of which are referred to as “in situ” projects). With the success they have achieved, they have recently been able to shift their focus more to in situ projects, a huge boon for the worldwide preservation efforts of these important and beloved species. With this transition, they have moved most of their cats to Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge, an accredited sanctuary in Arkansas, where care of the cats will continue to be funded by BCR for the rest of these cats’ lives.BCR, founded by Carole Baskin, has received widespread recognition and a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator for its commitment to animal welfare. Interestingly, BCR and Carole Baskin gained additional fame through their appearance in the 2020 Netflix documentary series “Tiger King.” One of BCR’s major accomplishments is having played a leading role in the passage of the federal Big Cat Public Safety Act (BCPSA) in December 2022. This makes it illegal to use big cat cubs for “pay to play” exploitation and prohibits private ownership of big cats, ending the majority of abuse of big cats in captivity in the United States. Howard Baskin, who joined BCR in 2002 and was instrumental in passing the BCPSA, and Carole’s daughter, Jamie Veronica Murdock, who has been working at Carole’s side since 1992 at the age of 12, have also been major contributors at BCR.<img src="https://academy-public.coinmarketcap.com/srd-optimized-uploads/41ce0954b3f14ac19471269e80b40c1c.jpeg" />This donation was made possible through the democratic decision of the Pawthereum community, reflecting their commitment to animal welfare and support for animal shelters worldwide​​​​​​. What started as a <a href="https://t.me/pawthereum" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Telegram conversation</a> blossomed into a <a href="https://snapshot.org/#/pawthereum.eth/proposal/0x9a168858741a2b2f50084d41d4d8618864f89d16f4ac8fe40f6d156c6ab3867f" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">proposal on Snapshot.org</a> where Pawtherians used their governance tokens to vote for a shelter to receive the donation. Since its inception, Pawthereum has been a digital advocate for animals in need, bypassing traditional funding methods to directly support animal shelters.
