As 2024 swings into gear and crypto volumes ramp up, Binance Futures has decided to throw its traders a bone in the form of $170,000 USDC in rewards. The generous promotional campaign is designed to raise awareness of its new USDC-margined perps. On January 4th, the exchange launched USDC-denominated markets for BTC, ETH, BNB, SOL, and XRP.
<a rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.binance.com/en/futures" target="_blank">Binance Futures</a> traders who deposit USDC will be eligible for a share of 125,000 in USDC. The promotion is open to <a rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.binance.com/en/fee/vip" target="_blank">regular users</a> as well as those on VIP tiers 1-3. The only requirement is that users make a minimum deposit of 100 USDC. Those who do so will be issued with a trading fee rebate voucher.
<h2 id="strong-making-money-from-margin-trading-strong">Making Money From Margin Trading</h2>
Binance Futures’ latest promotion should serve to further drive up demand for its new USDC-margined perps, although it’s not as if it’s short of business. Binance Futures is already the leading crypto derivatives exchange, recording <a rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.coingecko.com/en/exchanges/derivatives" target="_blank">$60B</a> in daily volume. Its BTC markets are hugely popular, accounting for the bulk of the $10B in open interest the exchange typically records over 24 hours.
While BTC will likely always dominate the futures market, especially during ETF season, other coins, SOL in particular, have been recording healthy volume as Solana has gained ground on ETH through H2 of 2023. For derivatives exchanges, the top crypto assets by market cap will always be best suited to perpetual swaps, since their liquidity and global accessibility make them harder to manipulate and less volatile to trade.
<h3 id="strong-binance-futures-focuses-on-usdc-strong">Binance Futures Focuses on USDC</h3>
In addition to offering a $125,000 USDC promotion, Binance Futures is running a <a rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.binance.com/en/activity/marketing-campaign/b8c00afb4a1c4a73801ba501d5994472" target="_blank">parallel campaign</a> that has another $45,000 USDC up for grabs. In this instance, users who trade a minimum of 1,000 <a rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://coincodex.com/crypto/usd-coin/" target="_blank">USDC</a> will be eligible for a share of the dynamic rewards pool. This will disburse a maximum of 45,000 USDC in the event of 6,000 eligible participants, with a lower threshold should fewer traders qualify.
Crypto futures have grown their market share across the board versus spot, as retail and professional traders alike have developed a fondness for perps. There are many reasons for this, not least on account of the outsized returns that can be generated when correctly trading a major market move with leverage. But there are other reasons too as to why futures have grown in popularity.
The ability to hold a stablecoin such as USDC as the underlying asset is convenient since when traders are not actively in a position, they are not exposed to market movements. Dollar-denominated perpetual swaps are also easier to track, making for a much cleaner trading experience: make profits, take profits, and then sit comfortably in stables until the next opportunity comes along.
Total Bitcoin futures volume <a rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow" href="https://www.theblock.co/data/crypto-markets/futures/volume-of-bitcoin-futures-monthly" target="_blank">surpassed</a> $1 trillion in December and January is already on track to surpass that figure.
