OpenAI’s official ChatGPT app for Android offers an alternative to Google Assistant, enabling users to engage with the chatbot by typing or speaking queries effortlessly.&nbsp;
While this marks a significant advancement, one challenge remains: manually launching the ChatGPT app for each interaction.

In the latest version of the ChatGPT Android app, version 1.2023.352, a new feature called “com.openai.voice.assistant.AssistantActivity” has surfaced.&nbsp;
Although currently disabled by default, this feature hints at a potential breakthrough. When manually enabled and launched, an overlay appears on the screen, reminiscent of the in-app voice chat mode’s swirling animation.&nbsp;
Unlike the in-app mode, this overlay does not occupy the entire screen and can be invoked from any screen, promising seamless accessibility to ChatGPT.
However, during testing, it was noted that the animation failed to complete, and the activity closed prematurely, preventing interaction with the chatbot.&nbsp;
This could be due to the feature’s incomplete status or its control through internal flags. Furthermore, the code for the app to function as a “default digital assistant app” is only partially present.&nbsp;
While an XML file named “assistant_interaction_service” defines essential attributes, the app still lacks the declarations required to specify which service to bind to.
Nevertheless, the “assistant_interaction_service” XML file indicates OpenAI’s intention to develop ChatGPT into Android’s default digital assistant app.&nbsp;
This evolution would enable users to access ChatGPT easily, either by long-pressing the home button (with three-button navigation) or swiping up from the bottom corner (with gesture navigation).&nbsp;
Despite this progress, creating custom hot words or responding to existing ones remains challenging, as it necessitates access to privileged APIs exclusive to trusted preinstalled apps.
