<p>During their recent summit, the BRICS proposed to a number of countries to join the organization. These countries are Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia, and Argentina. The latter declined the offer. A proposal that the other five have officially accepted.</p>
<h2 id="h-the-brics-officially-incorporate-the-five-announced-members">The BRICS Officially Incorporate the Five Announced Members</h2>
<p>It’s official. The BRICS have officially expanded to include five new nations, on this first day of the year 2024. Thus, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Iran, Egypt, and Ethiopia are now an integral part of the BRICS.</p>

<p>This development is the logical continuation of the formal invitations extended to these states during the annual summit of the alliance in 2023. It materializes the first expansion effort in the bloc’s history. This is despite the withdrawal of Argentina, initially invited.</p>
<p>Beyond that, it’s particularly a historic moment for the organization. Indeed, the last expansion of the BRICS dates back over ten years, since the group of countries decided to co-opt South Africa.</p>
<p><a href="https://watcher.guru/news/brics-welcome-2024-by-officially-adding-5-expansion-nations#google_vignette" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">The expansion of the BRICS</a> is therefore fundamentally strategic. It underscores, in fact, a sustained growth of the group of countries whose influence on the global geopolitical chessboard continues to strengthen.</p>

<h2 id="h-a-fundamentally-important-brics-expansion">A Fundamentally Important BRICS Expansion</h2>
<p>Interpreted through the lens of geopolitics, the expansion of the BRICS is of an importance that cannot be underestimated. Indeed, this choice aligns with the multipolar objectives of the alliance, in a geopolitical context particularly marked by the Westernisation of the globe.</p>
<p>And it must be said that the new geopolitical order desired by the BRICS does not leave anyone indifferent. Indeed, the alliance is faced with growing interest, notably from nearly 30 countries, who wish to participate in the next wave of BRICS expansion.</p>
<p>According to information leaked a few weeks ago, the alliance’s expansion efforts are expected to continue into 2024. The group of countries is working on plans to integrate six additional countries at the next annual summit to be held in Russia.</p>
<p>So far, we don’t know which countries are concerned by <a href="https://www.cointribune.com/en/new-chapter-for-the-brics-the-alliance-will-expand-to-17-members-by-2024/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">the BRICS’ expansion plans</a>, but this trend reveals one thing. That there is an increasingly widespread recognition of the alliance’s importance on the global geopolitical stage. A chessboard on which it aims to assert itself through a common currency that could involve cryptocurrencies.</p>
