In a shocking development, a cryptocurrency miner was kidnapped in Izhevsk, <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/russia-s-energy-ministry-charges-forward-to-legalize-crypto-mining/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Russia</a>. The 23-year-old victim was forcibly taken on December 25th in his yard, whisked away in a vehicle registered to a Perm pensioner. The kidnappers, familiar with the victim, contacted his brother via Telegram, demanding a 15 million ruble ransom. Their threat was severe: if not paid, they planned to plant drugs on the victim and hand him over to the police, according to <a href="https://ren.tv/news/v-rossii/1176251-banda-pokhitila-mainera-v-izhevske-i-potrebovala-15-mln-vykupa" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Ren TV</a>.
The gang, including a member who personally knew the miner, had past criminal records, with charges including robbery and extortion. This brazen act of kidnapping for ransom underscores the growing dangers in the crypto sector, where personal wealth can make individuals targets.
