This ambitious target emerges from Marathon's impressive average daily block <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/bitcoin-miners-set-for-a-tough-ride-as-2024-halving-nears-jp-morgan/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">production</a> rate. Within the first ten days of December, Marathon's MaraPool mined 68 bitcoin blocks, yielding 499 BTC. This equates to an average daily production of 49.9 BTC, according to <a href="https://theminermag.com/news/2023-12-11/bitcoin-mining-marathon-record-december-btc/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">TheMinerMag</a>.
A significant portion of Marathon's revenue this month, precisely 14.27%, originates from transaction fees, a reflection of the increased on-chain activities. At the current bitcoin price of $42,300, Marathon's MaraPool has already generated a staggering $21 million in mining revenue. This figure is exclusive of Marathon's production through joint ventures in the Middle East.
MaraPool's production indicates a realized <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/impending-bitcoin-halving-may-trigger-major-hashrate-decline-say-experts/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">hashrate</a> of 21.9 EH/s, utilizing 92.4% of Marathon's total energized hashrate of 23.7 EH/s. A strategic move by the company in November to energize previously idle miners has contributed significantly to this increase in production capacity.
Despite the overall bitcoin network hashrate remaining steady at around 490 EH/s this month, Marathon's enhanced capacity positions it to potentially exceed the 1,500 BTC mark. If achieved, this production would surpass <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/bitcoin-mining-giant-core-scientific-prepares-for-post-bankruptcy-comeback/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Core Scientific</a>'s record of 1,527 BTC in January 2022, setting a new benchmark for monthly production by a public mining company.
Marathon's potential record-setting achievement underscores the dynamic and evolving landscape of bitcoin mining.
