In a bold move, the Abkhazian authorities have decided to escalate their battle against illegal cryptocurrency mining. The operational headquarters, established in 2020 to combat this issue, announced their plans to immediately destroy confiscated <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/immersion-cooling-transforms-chinas-crypto-mining-landscape/">mining equipment</a>. This decision stems from the ongoing energy crises plaguing the region, particularly during autumn and winter, according to <a href="https://bits.media/vlasti-abkhazii-budut-unichtozhat-oborudovanie-podpolnykh-maynerov/">bits.media</a>.&nbsp;&nbsp; 
Abkhazia, already struggling with energy shortages, faces additional pressure as it now purchases energy from <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/russia-s-energy-ministry-charges-forward-to-legalize-crypto-mining/">Russia</a> on commercial terms. Sukhum Mayor Beslan Eshba highlighted the success of the operational headquarters in reducing the strain on power grids over the years. However, with the energy situation worsening, tougher measures are deemed necessary. 
Task forces will be formed to locate and dismantle underground crypto mining setups. These teams will comprise representatives from various departments including the State Standard, SUEZ, and the Department of Internal Affairs. Mayor Eshba emphasized the need for a stringent approach, indicating that any equipment seized from <a href="https://ultramining.com/news/en/large-scale-cryptocurrency-mining-farm-uncovered-in-dagestans-kizilyurtovsky-district/">illegal miners</a> will be destroyed on the spot. 
It's important to note that cryptocurrency mining has been banned in Abkhazia since late 2020, rendering all such activities illicit. The latest measures reflect the government's firm stance on enforcing this ban and addressing the associated energy crisis.
