A new chapter evolved in the ongoing feud between cryptocurrency industry heavyweights, renowned economist Nouriel Roubini, and Binance’s CEO Changpeng Zhao. The latest controversy stems from Roubini’s involvement in a new venture, the Atlas Climate Token, which aims to combat climate change and create accessible investment opportunities.
The sparks of this dispute were first ignited a year ago when Roubini publicly criticized Binance, dubbing it one of the “seven C’s” of the crypto realm: concealed, corrupt, crooks, criminals, con-men, carnival barkers, and CZ. Roubini questioned why Binance was allowed to operate in the United Arab Emirates and associated CZ with what he perceived as ‘bad actors’ in the crypto space. He also likened CZ to a “walking time bomb,” suggesting that the market manipulation scandal involving FTX had revealed the industry’s darker underbelly.
CZ didn’t take these accusations lying down, and in response, he dismissed Roubini’s critique, stating, “People with negative energy in their life generally don’t go far in life.” He defended his exchange, Binance, against Roubini’s claims of corruption.

Fast forward to the present, and Roubini co-founded Atlas Climate Token has reignited the feud. The project’s website proudly lists individuals with backgrounds at reputable financial institutions, including Binance and used their logo, among its leadership team, which prompted CZ to <a href="https://x.com/cz_binance/status/1721810713478307859?s=20" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">tweet</a>, “Some people are shameless. After attacking Binance publicly on stage a year ago, now issues a token and puts Binance logo on their website WITHOUT permission.”
