In a major announcement yesterday, Shytoshi Kusama, the lead developer of the Shiba Inu project, unveiled the ambitious “Shib Name Service” (SNS) on the Shibarium platform. The announcement was made through a blog post <a href="https://twitter.com/ShytoshiKusama/status/1719360288032497747" target="_blank" rel="noopener nofollow">shared</a> via X (formerly known as Twitter), with Kusama teasing, “No tricks here, only the first of many treats.” 
<h2 id="shiba-inu-s-name-service-goes-live">Shiba Inu’s Name Service Goes Live</h2> 
The Shib Name Service (SNS) stands at the heart of this announcement which was <a href="https://bitcoinist.com/shiba-inu-72-hour-countdown/" target="_blank" rel="noopener ">teased</a> with a countdown. Beyond just being a new feature, SNS represents “a new era on Shibarium” and an innovative approach to how users interact with addresses. 
Traditional blockchain addresses, characterized by their complex strings of letters and numbers, have been a deterrent for many users. But as Kusama explained, with SNS, “No longer will you have to navigate through complex Shibarium addresses. Instead, you can send tokens to ‘bob.shib’ instead of a lengthy and confusing wallet address.” 
Kusama’s vision with Shiba Inu’s name service is multi-faceted. He emphasizes its decentralized ethos, a foundational principle of many blockchain endeavors. He stated that by “Operating on the Shibarium blockchain, SNS ensures that there is no central control.” 
This aligns seamlessly with the broader objectives of the Shiba Inu project, prioritizing user empowerment and diminishing reliance on centralized platforms. Delving into its broader applications, Kusama highlighted, “SNS goes beyond supporting Shibarium addresses. It has the potential to be used with other cryptocurrencies and even decentralized websites.” 
Security, often a primary concern in the crypto space, hasn’t been overlooked. Kusama reassured users of the inherent safety features, underscoring that by being “Built on top of the secure Shibarium platform, SNS inherits robust security features.” He further expounded on the real-world implications of the SNS, noting its potential to drastically reduce transaction errors. “With human-readable addresses,” Kusama remarked, “the chances of making a mistake are significantly minimized.” 
<h2 id="a-new-era-for-shibarium-shibdentity">A New Era For Shibarium: Shibdentity</h2> 
However, this announcement’s grandeur extends beyond just SNS. Kusama introduced the community to “Shibdentity,” which he envisions as a paradigm shift in decentralized identity solutions. “Shibdentity is more than just a clever play on words; it represents a paradigm shift in the world of decentralized identity solutions,” Kusama elucidated. He emphasized its revolutionary features such as “self-custodial authentication, decentralized verifiable credentials, smart wallets, and adherence to W3C standards for self-sovereign identity.” 
Adding another layer to his forward-looking vision, Kusama also hinted at “The HUB.” Designed as a super app rooted in the Shibdentity framework, “The HUB” aims to be an all-encompassing ecosystem. Kusama described it as a place “where decentralized applications (dApps) thrive, interoperability is the norm, and your identity is the key to accessing various services.” 
Closing his extensive announcement, Kusama expressed a contagious optimism about the future of Shiba Inu’s name service, Shibdentity, and the overarching vision for Shibarium. Inviting the community to embark on this transformative journey, he confidently signed off with, “Exciting times are ahead! WOOF!”
