With over 90,000 followers, the account has been exposing individuals who have appeared in viral videos or were suggested by commenters. This unsettling practice involves taking screenshots of the targets, running their images through facial recognition software, and subsequently revealing their full names, social media profiles, and sometimes even their employers to millions of viewers.
The account’s modus operandi typically involves capturing unsuspecting individuals who appeared in other viral videos, sometimes adding Taylor Swift’s music to the content. The process begins with the collection of screenshots and the subsequent cropping of the target’s face. The facial recognition software then matches these images to publicly available information, effectively “doxing” the victims without their consent. This disturbing trend showcases how the confluence of facial recognition technology and the belief that anything public is fair game for online clout can have far-reaching consequences.

What makes this situation even more alarming is the response from TikTok itself. Many victims of this doxing campaign have expressed feelings of violation and concern about the potential misuse of this technology for more sinister purposes, such as stalking. Eli Lloyd, one of the victims, emphasized the broader implications, stating, “I worry about the potential application of this technology for something worse than online thirstiness. Like full-blown stalking, for example, or who knows what.”
One victim, identified only as Matthew for privacy reasons, became a target after a seemingly innocuous interaction with a social media content creator. In a short video clip lasting 26 seconds, Matthew engaged in banter with the creator while discussing actor Pedro Pascal. During this exchange, he did not provide any identifiable personal information.
However, this fleeting moment did not end there. The facial recognition TikTok account, in response to the original video, launched an intrusive investigation. They took multiple screenshots of Matthew’s face and used a website called Pimeyes to conduct facial recognition searches. Within moments, Pimeyes provided a hit—a photo of Matthew on his employer’s website. Armed with this information, the individual behind the TikTok account easily obtained Matthew’s full name, which they then used to locate his Instagram profile.
The TikTok video revealing Matthew’s name, employer, and personal social media account quickly gained traction, accumulating around 676,000 views. The comments on the video ranged from sexual jokes about Matthew to discussions about the capabilities of Pimeyes, with some questioning the legality of this practice.
The case of Matthew serves as a stark example of the potential dangers associated with the misuse of facial recognition technology. What was once considered a fleeting and harmless online interaction turned into a disturbing invasion of privacy, exposing an individual to unwarranted attention and potential harm.
This viral TikTok account underscores the urgent need for increased awareness and regulation surrounding facial recognition technology.
