This is the very first time that any big music group has filed a lawsuit against an AI startup. The Universal Music Group (UMG) filed a lawsuit against Claude AI developer Anthropic to stop the unauthorized use of its music to train AI models. UMG is looking for $75 Million in damages.
Other companies among the plaintiffs include Concord Music Group, ABKO, Worship Together Music, Capital CMG, and others who were listed as publishers. They collectively charged the AI developer for entering the songs of artists they represent into its AI models’ database without any authority.
<h2 class="wp-block-heading" id="strong-details-related-with-lawsuits-strong">Details Related With Lawsuits</h2>
The lawyer of the group said that the publishers highlighted that this is an infringement of their copyrighted song lyrics by the artificial intelligence (AI) company Anthropic. It is unlawful that the company Anthropic copies and circulates huge amounts of copyrighted works. This also includes the lyrics to myriad musical compositions owned and controlled by publishers.
The lawsuit is 60 pages long, as posted by The Hollywood Reporter, the attorney said that the publisher accepts the innovation and the strength for ethical and responsible use of AI but they charge Anthropic for violating the principle and unethical use of the lyrics without permission. They must comply with the copyright laws. The lawsuits include many instances in which Claude AI was able to provide lyrics to the copyrighted songs.
Anthropic in the process of building and operating <a href="https://www.thecoinrepublic.com/2023/08/20/exploring-the-landscape-cryptos-evolution-towards-cross-chain-multichain-and-omnichain-models/" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">AI models</a> made unlawful copies. The attorney representing the publishers wrote that Anthropic declares and maintains that they are different from the other business AI’s. They call themselves a safety and research company.
The company also claims that by training the AI models, they confirm that the programs are more “helpful, honest, and harmless” the publisher attorney wrote. “Yet, despite its purportedly principled approach, Anthropic infringes on copyrights without any respect for the law or creative community whose contributions are the backbone of Anthropic’s infringing service.”
The publishers also demand legal fees along with the jury trial. They also demanded the destruction of all the infringing material, and how the Anthropic AI model was trained should be made public. They demanded a financial penalty of nearly $150,000 per infringed work.
Anthropic was founded in 2021 and is funded by many famous companies like Google, Zoom, and Salesforce.&nbsp;
