Recently, the Bank of Finland also entered the effort to revolutionize the payment sector. The Bank of Finland’s pioneering role in digital payment solutions 
On October 19, 2023, the Bank of Finland (BOF) is taking a proactive step in developing a Finnish instant payment solution compliant with European standards. This initiative, announced by BOF board member Tuomas Välimäki, who is also a board member of the European Central Bank’s (ECB) Governing Council, aims to revolutionize the digital payment landscape.
Välimäki expressed the role of digital currency, particularly the “digital euro,” in shaping the future of European payments. He stated:
&nbsp;“The possible introduction of a digital euro would give consumers the option of paying with central bank money wherever electronic payment is accepted.” Collaborative efforts for innovative payment solutions 
In collaboration with the European Payments Council, the Bank of Finland is actively supporting the creation of a Finnish instant payment solution. This solution will be embedded in credit transfers, that offer a seamless alternative to traditional payment card networks.

Earlier this year, Finnish company Membrane Finance took a significant step in the digital currency space by launching a fully reserved stablecoin backed by the euro. Membrane Finance CEO Juha Viitala expressed positiveness toward EUROe stablecoin, compliant with regulations, which would facilitate wider adoption of decentralized finance (DeFi) applications among Europeans, potentially allowing them to grow their wealth securely. The Digital Euro Project enters the preparation phase 
On October 18, the governing council of the <a href="https://news.todayq.com/ecb-board-member-claims-that-the-digital-euro-would-meet-the-rising-demand-for-e-payments/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">European Central Bank</a> (ECB) declared the initiation of the “preparation phase” for the digital euro project, scheduled to span two years. During this phase, the focus will be more on finalizing the regulatory framework for the digital currency and selecting potential issuers.
The Bank of Finland’s proactive approach to digital payments and the emerging digital euro project highlights the nation’s commitment to advancing innovative financial solutions in line with European standards.
