As the world moves forward with technological advancements, countries are Singapore are emerging as frontrunners to curb crimes. Singapore is steadfast in its battle against a surge of crypto-related crimes across the globe.
Such crimes hinder the growth of technological advancements because of exploitation. To counter this, the country-city has taken a bold step by establishing two specialized task forces. Each task force will have a team of 20 experienced prosecutors. They will address these growing threats by cooperating with global authorities. What’s is the new Crypto task force? 
One of these twotask forces will be focused on crypto specifically. The primary objective will be to help enforcement agencies with efficient tracking and seizing illegal digital assets. 
This move by Singapore reflects its tough stance against crypto criminals and cybercriminals who exploit the anonymity and borderless features of crypto.
On the other hand, the second task force will set its sights on technology-assisted crimes. Singapore has recognized the pivot role that computers and other devices play in criminal activities. International cooperation to curb Crypto crimes 
Wang Shouren, the Deputy Chief Prosecutor of the Attorney-General’s Chambers, emphasized the significance of cross-border collaboration Shouren highlighted that today’s criminals operate borderless. It necessitates a level of international cooperation among law enforcement agencies.
Singapore is not alone. Other nations across the globe are also joining the fight against crypto crimes. For example, India is currently in the process of <a href="https://news.todayq.com/india-unveils-dark-net-monitor-to-thwart-crypto-crime/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">developing</a> the Cryptocurrency Intelligence and Analysis Tool (CIAT). It will be a critical tool to combat high-profile crypto fraud and theft cases.
Such dedication to curb crypto related crime was also shown by the United Kingdom. It has also <a href="https://news.todayq.com/uks-national-crime-agency-expands-its-investigation-team-to-counter-increasing-crypto-crime/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">launched a specialized unit</a> within its National Crime Agency (NCA) to address crypto crimes. Furthermore, in an indication of the growing importance of this issue, the UK NCA advertised senior roles for its Digital Assets Team earlier this year, reinforcing the increasing need for specialized units to confront the ever-evolving complexity of crypto-related offenses.
The urgency behind these dedicated task forces becomes all the more apparent when considering the staggering statistics revealed by Chainalysis. The data, shown in a screenshot below, indicates that illicit cryptocurrency addresses received over $20 billion worth of cryptocurrency in 2022 alone, underscoring the scale of the problem.

In August 2023, Singapore was shocked by a huge <a href="https://news.todayq.com/millions-in-crypto-linked-to-money-laundering-seized-in-singapore/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">money-laundering scandal</a>. Approximately $740 million was laundered and involved major local and international banks. A group of 10 individuals were charged, breaking their intricate web of illicit financial activities.
These accused individuals were found to be harboring substantial sums derived from unlicensed moneylending and illegal gambling operations. However, they funneled the funds through reputable financial institutions.
