In a concerning development, the X (formerly Twitter) account associated with the renowned American rapper Nelly was subjected to a security breach, as reported by on-chain investigator ZachXBT.&nbsp;
The unauthorized intruder seized control of the account, leveraging it for social engineering attacks and misleading unsuspecting individuals toward a crypto phishing website.
The attacker went to great lengths to manipulate Nelly’s profile, falsely portraying themselves as a security analyst for “Scam Sniffer,” a web-based security solution. The bio on the compromised account falsely claimed, “On-chain security analyst. Helping you catch scammers @realscamsniffer.”&nbsp;
However, subsequent to these actions, the compromised profile appears to have been either deleted or removed, as it now reflects that the account does not exist.
Cornell Iral Haynes Jr., widely recognized by his stage name Nelly, boasts a prolific career in the music industry, marked by the release of eight studio albums and a collection of prestigious awards.
His accomplishments include three Grammy Awards and nine Billboard Music Awards, a testament to his significant contributions to the music world.
The gravity of this breach was further underlined by ZachXBT, who highlighted two messages sent by the malicious actor to unsuspecting recipients. The messages deceitfully claimed that they were investigating potential wallet approval compromises on the recipients’ addresses, a ploy designed to trick users into authorizing harmful transactions and, in turn, pilfering their funds.
Scam Sniffer, the legitimate security platform, echoed ZachXBT’s report on X, alerting the public about the fraudulent activities. They confirmed the compromise of the @NellioETH account and its false representation as a Scam Sniffer member.&nbsp;
The organization’s statement emphasized vigilance, advising users to consistently ensure that they are visiting the authentic Scam Sniffer website at scamsniffer.io to safeguard themselves against such malicious schemes.
