The non-profit organization Whole Earth Foundation (WEF), which is dedicated to building, providing, and operating a citizen-participation-based infrastructure information platform, is advancing the mission of “Protecting infrastructure together with citizens.”In September, the first-ever collaboration event with a soccer club was held, and it was a month filled with potential not only for infrastructure improvement but also as an example of community development. Additionally, TEKKON’s community is expanding both domestically and internationally through events organized by local users in the Philippines and participation in blockchain-related conferences.Expanding the circle of “Tetsu-activity” through citizen participation!The results achieved through citizen cooperation until September 2023 are as follows:■ Citizen-contributed infrastructure data is on the rise! Since its general release on October 15, 2022, “TEKKON” has been gathering manhole data from around the world, and the current number of submissions is approximately 4.2 million. Additionally, the number of pole submissions has increased per capita, leading to a faster collection of infrastructure data, with over 1.03 million pole data submissions currently collected. This means that 100,000 poles were photographed in just one month.<img src="https://academy-public.coinmarketcap.com/srd-optimized-uploads/c8733138249a43b0abb280af5c910cc8.png" />■ Speed record broken at the “Pole Battle Fukushima”! Since April of this year, in collaboration with Tohoku Electric Power Network Co., TEKKON has been inconducting the “Pole Battle in Tohoku and Niigata,” which is being deployed in all the Tohoku prefectures and Niigata. While they have achieved their target submission numbers at all previous events in Miyagi, Yamagata, Iwate, Aomori, Akita, and Gunma, in Fukushima and Gunma, they set a new speed record by photographing 2,268 poles in a single day! There are three more verification experiment events with the Tohoku Electric Power Network to go. In September, TEKKON collaborated with Gainare Tottori, a soccer club based in Tottori Prefecture, with the support of Meiji Yasuda Life Insurance Co. and the city of Tottori, to hold the “Manhole Battle in Tottori City.” This event not only serves as a case study of community development involving local authorities, sports clubs, citizens, and tourists, but also generates an opportunity for citizens to get more interested in their city’s infrastructure and themselves as they come together to create a better city.<img src="https://academy-public.coinmarketcap.com/srd-optimized-uploads/3dba8062b56a4203b9fae7919cc12468.png" />■ User communities are growing in the Philippines too. In the Philippines, a “D-War” event was held in Manila, with citizens taking part. Local ambassadors and operational members also participated, resulting in the collection of 1,163 pieces of infrastructure data in a single day. Just like in Japan, infrastructure data is being gathered from various places. The growth of the community in the Philippines is also highly anticipated.<img src="https://academy-public.coinmarketcap.com/srd-optimized-uploads/26245e07c1734809957b8811f62886b4.png" />Furthermore, TEKKON participated in the Blockchain Week held in the Philippines. Many people interested in blockchain technology and business, including industry professionals and local university students, visited the booth. Through this event, it became a platform for exchanging ideas and fostering connections with people who share an interest in blockchain technology and business.<img src="https://academy-public.coinmarketcap.com/srd-optimized-uploads/73d0482783164e5f94eef07e091e6e02.png" />In conclusion Water supply, manholes, utility poles, guardrails, and other essential social infrastructure are vital not only in Japan but in cities worldwide. However, aging infrastructure has become a significant social issue.WEF believes that there is a way to prevent infrastructure decay by involving ordinary citizens in the problem-solving process.
