<a href="https://thecoinrise.com/uniswap-uni-review-the-game-changer-in-decentralized-finance/" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Decentralized crypto exchange Uniswap Labs</a> has revealed that it will begin charging a 0.15% fee for crypto trades done using its web app and wallet beginning from October 17. This move comes as Uniswap Labs seeks to sustainably fund its operations while emphasizing a commitment to simple and transparent pricing.
<h2 id="b-understanding-the-0-15-trading-fee-b">Understanding the 0.15% Trading Fee</h2>
Uniswap stated in a <a href="https://support.uniswap.org/hc/en-us/articles/20131678274957-What-are-Uniswap-Labs-fees" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">recent article that the trading fee is separate</a> from the Uniswap Protocol fee switch, which is decided upon by Uniswap governance. The list of tokens that will be subject to this fee includes ETH, USDC, WETH, USDT, DAI, WBTC, agEUR, GUSD, LUSD, EUROC, and XSGD. These fees will apply only when trading these tokens through Uniswap Labs interfaces on the mainnet and supported Layer 2 solutions.
Notably, Uniswap has exempted certain types of swaps from this fee structure to maintain fairness and utility for its users. Swaps between stablecoins, such as USDC and DAI, are excluded from the 0.15% fee.&nbsp;
Additionally, wraps between ETH and WETH are also not subject to this fee. Uniswap said it aims to ensure that these essential transactions remain accessible and cost-effective for its users.
<h2 id="b-how-the-fee-works-b">How the Fee Works</h2>
When a user selects the tokens they wish to swap on the Uniswap platform, they will see any applicable fees clearly displayed in the swap detail section. The 0.15% interface fee is calculated based on the output token amount once the trade is settled.&nbsp;
Importantly, this fee is only collected on swaps where both the input and output tokens are part of the list subject to fees. Users should be aware that the interface fee is paid in the output token itself.
<h2 id="b-estimates-and-consequences-b">Estimates and Consequences</h2>
Based on Uniswap’s current trading volumes, Block Research forecasts that the new token charge might generate $1 million in income every day. According to Flipside data, the affected trading pairs, which account for around $580 million in daily trading volume, are expected to yield approximately $870,000 in swap fees.
