<h2 id="header-0">Hot Topic: M3TASPACES updates</h2><p><em>Developer Diaries aim to give a transparent view to our community on how the build of Bloktopia is progressing. We value your loyalty and passion for our project, and we will be sharing as much information as we can about 1 specific feature — hopefully at the end of each week!</em></p><p><em>We will continue to work in an agile manner, and will be adapting and optimising our roadmap continuously. That is the nature of building a metaverse. Some things we share here might not ever come to fruition, but our goal will be to set clear expectations and communicate with you all about the upcoming roadmap and priorities.</em></p><p>This weekly Developer Diary update focuses on the recent developments and updates to M3TASPACES since the original community tests. Some of these updates were showcased and will have been viewed by the community in the recent 2nd Birthday Party event, as well as shared in the party re-cap. Here’s a full list of the latest updates and upgrades since the first M3TASPACES test below:</p><h3 id="strong-new-and-improved-hud-strong"><strong>New and improved HUD</strong>:</h3><p>We have redesigned the HUD (head-up display) to make it more intuitive and accessible for users.The HUD is the interface that shows various information and options for users, such as their M3TAPASS username, internet connection, settings, controls and interactive buttons.</p><p>In the first M3TASPACES community test, there was a lesser developed HUD, with some aspects only viewable from the main menu.</p><p>The new HUD has a sleeker and cleaner look, with connection and microphone information at the top, along with movement and voice controls positioned at the bottom of the screen in a collapsable menu. This makes them much easier to view and understand when first joining M3TASPACES, as well as being easy to hide once a user no longer needs them.</p><h3 id="voice-chat-improvements">Voice Chat Improvements:</h3><p>We have also made some significant improvements to the voice chat functionality of M3TASPACES. Voice chat was one of the worst scoring categories from the community feedback and seen as one of the most important, as it enables users to have real-time and natural conversations in the Metaverse. We have improved the quality and clarity of voice chat, introduced the “Push to Talk”, improved the visual aspects of when a users avatar is speaking, as well as reduced the latency and background noise.</p><h3 id="integration-of-text-chat">Integration of Text Chat:</h3><p>Along with Voice Chat, we have added text chat as another option for users to communicate with each other and with the hosts during events. Text chat is especially useful for users who prefer to communicate in writing, or who have issues with voice chat due to technical or personal reasons. Adding in text chat provides a means of communication for all within Bloktopia and M3TASPACES, which can be accessed by clicking on “Global Chat” in the bottom left of the HUD.</p><h3 id="strong-avatar-movements-strong"><strong>Avatar movements:</strong></h3><p>We have also added some new and improved avatar movements to make them more expressive and lively. These dynamic and static animations have been broken down into three types at present:</p><ul><li>Idle animations — These play when the player isn’t interacting or moving This way, they continue to contribute to the lively atmosphere even during moments of stillness</li><li>Speaking animations — These play when the user is talking but not moving to really bring the avatars to life</li><li>Gestures — These are triggered by the user to show a reaction; e.g. dancing, waving, thumbs up and down etc.</li></ul><p>All of the above animations can be interrupted by moving to ensure the player being able to move is the highest priority. The animations are also fully synchronised over the network.</p><react-video url="https://youtu.be/2ZhNectpUYw"></react-video><p></p><h3 id="ask-a-question-feature">‘Ask A Question’ Feature:</h3><p>The final new addition to the HUD is the “Ask A Question” feature, which enables users to submit questions to the speakers or hosts of the events they attend. These are fed directly into the presenters HUD and they can see who was asked it also. This feature allows users to engage more actively with the events and get valuable insights from the experts who are presenting on stage.</p><p><img src="https://cdn-images-1.medium.com/max/1600/1*zxN93O_sjg770rO0T0Rr3g.png" /></p><p>We are continuing to work on more features and updates that we will reveal soon, so stay tuned for more developer diaries in the future.
