Hamas‘s shocking attack on Israel over the weekend has raised many questions. The most intriguing question was how the organization financed the surprise attack, and chain analysis data shows that Hamas used cryptocurrencies to finance this attack. 
<h2 style="text-align: justify" id="strong-hamas-collected-41-million-in-cryptocurrencies-before-the-attack-strong">Hamas Collected $41 Million in Cryptocurrencies Before the Attack</h2> 
The financing of Hamas’s surprise attack on Israel has been one of the most discussed topics following the attack. According to The Wall Street Journal, it has been determined that cryptocurrencies were used in the financing process of the attack. 
According to The Wall Street Journal, both the Palestinian Islamic Jihad Organization and Hamas have been involved in intensive cryptocurrency transactions, especially since August 2021. BitOK Research data reveals that Hamas-affiliated cryptocurrency wallets collected $41 million worth of cryptocurrencies between August 2021 and June 2023, prior to the Israeli attack. 
Furthermore, data provided by Elliptic shows that cryptocurrency wallets associated with the Palestinian Islamic Jihad Organization collected $93 million worth of cryptocurrencies during the same period. 
<h2 style="text-align: justify" id="strong-israeli-police-s-cryptocurrency-operation-against-hamas-strong">Israeli Police’s Cryptocurrency Operation Against Hamas</h2> 
As we previously reported, the local media outlet Calcalist, based on an official press release on October 10, reported that the Israeli police had frozen cryptocurrency accounts linked to Hamas. It was also reported that assistance was sought from <a href="https://en.coin-turk.com/binance-temporarily-suspends-transactions-of-8-altcoins-due-to-multichain-issues/" data-wpel-link="internal">Binance</a>, the world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, in freezing the accounts.

According to the report, the cyber unit of Israel’s Lahav 433 unit collaborated with the country’s Ministry of Defense, intelligence agencies, and cryptocurrency exchange Binance to freeze the cryptocurrency accounts identified as belonging to Hamas and seize the funds in those accounts. 
It was announced that the funds belonging to Hamas were confiscated during the operation, but the exact amount was not disclosed. It was stated that all confiscated funds will be transferred to the Israeli national treasury. Israeli officials have previously carried out similar operations against Hamas and have seized funds from approximately 190 cryptocurrency accounts on Binance that were allegedly linked to the organization since 2021.
