A wave of SIM swap attacks hit the leading <a href="https://coinmarketcap.com/academy/article/what-is-friendtech">decentralized social network Friend.tech</a> this week, resulting in four users having over $385,000 worth of Ethereum (ETH) stolen from their accounts. Crypto sleuth ZachXBT was able to trace the on-chain transactions to the same culprit behind all of the hacks.<tweet-embed url="https://twitter.com/zachxbt/status/1709697295464141208?s=20"></tweet-embed>SIM swapping includes hackers tricking mobile carriers into moving a user&#x27;s phone number to a SIM controlled by the hacker. With the phone number, they can break into the victim&#x27;s account or use two-factor authentication services to gain access.Two of the victims openly documented their SIM swaps on Friend.tech. &quot;Got sim swapped,&quot; <a href="https://twitter.com/sumfattytuna/status/1709697238316769642?s=20" rel="nofollow">tweeted</a> Sumfattytuna. Meanwhile, KingMgugga <a href="https://twitter.com/KingMgugga/status/1709632413406826709?s=20" rel="nofollow">posted</a> that he was “getting f*** sim swapped watching it happen!!!”Earlier in the week, four other Friend.tech users <a href="https://twitter.com/wallet_guard/status/1709250190949904695?s=52" rel="nofollow">reported</a> over 109 ETH (worth $178K) stolen due to SIM swaps.<tweet-embed url="https://twitter.com/friendtech/status/1709661643028976110"></tweet-embed>Meanwhile, Friend.tech added a feature allowing users to remove or add login methods, allowing users to unlink their phone numbers to their account. The application is also planning to add two-factor authentication.
