The UK has scheduled a Safe AI Summit in November, and the US has published a voluntary AI Bill of Rights. These initiatives reflect the growing recognition of the need to address AI’s ethical and legal implications. 
One organization actively contributing to this dialogue is Responsible AI, a North-America-centric non-profit. It serves as a bridge between policymakers, academics, researchers, and industry stakeholders to promote responsible AI practices. This involves prioritizing factors such as safety, trustworthiness, profitability, and risk management. A reference architecture outlining roles and responsibilities in AI implementation is also essential to provide clarity for lawmakers and other stakeholders.

Responsible AI works on vendor assessments to hold them accountable for ethical and policy commitments. For instance, under UK law, copyright exists for 70 years after an author’s death, making it clear that training AI models with copyrighted materials is problematic. Responsible AI’s efforts are crucial in navigating these complexities while keeping the broader ethical picture in focus.
