Nvidia's chips have seen a demand surge, especially after the release of the generative AI application ChatGPT. The company now controls a market share of around 80%. Interestingly, the raid comes in the wake of France's aggressive measures against big tech companies. Last month, France suspended sales of Apple's iPhone 12 over radiation concerns, forcing Apple to release a software update for the French market. 
This week's raid specifically targeted Nvidia, a global leader in AI and computer graphics chips. The Wall Street Journal revealed that the action was indeed aimed at Nvidia, citing sources familiar with the matter. The company declined to comment on the issue, and the French competition authority has not yet responded to requests for clarification. 
This scrutiny is not limited to France, as Nvidia's pricing for its data center GPUs, like the H100 model, has already been under the lens for being "criminally expensive." Nvidia's market valuation has recently soared past $1 trillion, making it a behemoth in the tech industry. Such dominance naturally brings the spotlight, and sometimes scrutiny, from regulatory authorities. 
While France's competition authority has a reputation for taking stringent action, it doesn't necessarily mean other countries will follow suit.
