The rise in popularity of Bored Ape Yacht Club collections and artists like Beeple have put NFTs on the map since the start of 2020.</p><p>In addition, NFTs helped revolutionize how we interacted with digital ownership, providing avenues for people to start collections and prove their authenticity through the magic power of transparent blockchain technology. However, the technology behind NFTs is changing, allowing the creation of a new version. One that  pushes use-case far beyond the original scope of art, music, and static media, and could well reshape the entire Web3 and GameFi sectors.</p><h2 id="header-1">Introducing Dynamic NFTs.</h2><h3 id="dynamic-nfts-an-evolved-asset">Dynamic NFTs - An Evolved Asset</h3><p>Dynamic NFTs are best described as living NFTs, which possess the ability to change in response to various external factors and user interactions. This ability provides developers and collectors with a wide range of new, customizable, and innovative use cases. These living NFTs have greater malleability as the new generation of tokens enhances owners&#39; interactivity, helping developers deliver more engaging experiences.</p><p>dNFTs are still based on blockchain principles – meaning they&#39;re fully verifiable, with all ownership data transparently available on-chain. However, they have programmable and interactive features that help the NFTs evolve and transform over time - sometimes giving birth to entirely new creations.</p><p>Instead of using the traditional ERC-721 standard like classical NFTs, dNFTs use a new ERC-1155 standard. This allows the NFT to evolve using changes triggered through the smart contract data via oracles. As a result, dNFTs can change over time based on predefined rules and factors set out in the smart contract from the creator.</p><p>These malleable NFTs provide a wide range of use cases - particularly in the gaming sector. To put the impact of dynamic NFTs into perspective, let&#39;s look at an example use-case application of this new technology through the gaming sector. One of the best Web3 gaming projects integrating dNFTs into its ecosystem is undoubtedly Undeads.</p><p><a href="https://undeads.com" rel="noopener noreferrer nofollow">Undeads</a> is a AAA-rated MMORPG VR survival game with intriguing lore, addictive gameplay. and an immersive storyline. Set in a dystopian future, the game is placed in a post-apocalyptic metaverse in a battle of survival between humans and zombies. Built on the Unreal Engine 5.1 by Epic, Undeads is designed to rival mainstream AAA titles in the gaming sector, and it&#39;s expected to keep players engrossed in tense combat battles alongside rescue-oriented tasks. The hype and anticipation behind the project is already building and has received attention from high-profile BAYC NFT holders and notable partnerships with Warner Bros.</p><p>The game incorporates over ten types of playable NFT assets, some of which are dNFTs - all providing a large selection of play-and-earn GameFi mechanics. With 6,666 NFTs per faction (humans or zombies), players are tasked with exploring new territories, defending their towns, collecting resources to survive, learning new professions, and trading to stretch their survival time.</p><p>The dNFTs in the game are set to evolve as the player explores the game and hits new achievements. Essentially, the dNFT will grow alongside the player and their abilities as they improve their skills.</p><p>Let&#39;s take a weapon, for example. The game contains action-packed melee and ranged combat with various weapons to obtain and level up. As the player levels up their skills in the player-vs-player (PvP) and player-vs-environment (PvE) scenarios, the weapon will increase and evolve alongside them. The metadata attached to that weapon will improve in factors such as strength, power, and rarity. At the same time, the design of the dNFT can also change to show its leveled-up criteria.</p><p>Although the player sees improved stats and upgraded decals, the changes to the metadata behind the dNFT can make it rarer. The oracle tracks the progress through the PvP and PvE scenarios in a points-based system, and once a certain level is hit, the smart contract for the dNFT is triggered, causing it to level up. The increased rarity makes the dNFT more desirable for other players in the game, providing increased value in the marketplace.</p><p>The impact of dNFTs doesn&#39;t stop at weapons. Characters will also be dNFTs that can change in appearance as their metadata behind the scenes changes. The character dNFTs will grow to represent the player&#39;s in-game achievements, effectively increasing the engagement for players. In fact, all of the NFTs in the metaverse will potentially be dNFTs, with potions, weapons, skins, real estate, and loot boxes having the capability.</p><p>Overall, introducing dynamic NFTs is a win-win for players and developers. On the one hand, players will want the opportunity to spend more time developing their assets into something as they&#39;re determined to increase the stats behind the dNFTs and make them more valuable or rare. On the other hand, gaming studios will receive an increase in player retention, which translates into a new type of revenue stream for the developers. Indeed it seems that Dynamic NFTs are not just a new trend; they&#39;re the very future of interactive gaming — one that will allow players to play, evolve, and own like never before, with Undeads itself at the spearhead of their use-case.</p>
