Renowned Brazilian football star Ronaldinho Gaúcho is facing the possibility of being detained by authorities in connection with an ongoing investigation into a cryptocurrency fraud case in Brazil.   
Local media reports suggest that Ronaldinho failed to comply with a congressional summons related to a pyramid scheme investigation tied to one of his companies.   
Having played for esteemed football clubs such as Paris Saint-Germain, FC Barcelona, and AC Milan, Ronaldinho has now found himself entangled in legal proceedings.   
The football icon reportedly evaded a subpoena for the second time on August 24, missing a scheduled appearance at a congressional hearing due to adverse weather conditions.

Congressman Aureo Ribeiro has stated that Ronaldinho will be given another chance to testify on August 31. If he fails to appear once again, law enforcement officials could intervene and bring him before the committee.   
In Brazil, individuals summoned as witnesses to testify before Congress are legally obliged to do so. Non-compliance with a subpoena could lead to fines and potential police intervention, forcing the individual to appear.   
The focus of the investigation revolves around Ronaldinho's business venture, "18kRonaldinho." Allegedly, the company made promises of daily returns exceeding 2% through investments in cryptocurrency.   
Subsequently, a lawsuit was filed against the company, seeking damages exceeding $61 million for the alleged failure to deliver on these promised profits. This lawsuit is now part of a broader inquiry into cryptocurrency-related fraud within the country.   
Ronaldinho's legal team argues that he merely served as the "ambassador" for the company and, therefore, is another victim of the purported scam.   
According to his representatives, his name and image were illicitly used to deceive potential clients without proper authorization.   
Ronaldinho's involvement in the crypto realm also extends to a nonfungible token (NFT) collection, launched in collaboration with INFLUXO in 2021.
